Modigliani | Female Studies
As a modern artist, Amedeo Modigliani's work (1884-1920) is immediately identifiable because of its stylized elongated shapes. When he painted a woman's portrait, he simplified her face to its geometric origins . The result adds a universality as if he painted the spirit of a woman as well as her appearance. He pursued this geometric interest in his stone sculptures which have stylistic elements of African and Oceanic art. These statue replicas of Modigliani's Female Studies are part of the Parastone Museum Collection.
