Collection: Michelangelo Davinci | Renaissance

The Renaissance period in Europe -- cultural rebirth after the Middle Ages -- extends from the 14th to 17th centuries with its origins in Italy. In the 14th and 15th centuries, there was a renewed interest in classical texts, ancient theorists, and humanism. Protagoras said "Man is the Measure of All Things". This philosophy, which placed man at the center of his existence, was evident in linear perspective in art, observation in science, and reforms in education. DaVinci's scientific notebooks and Michelangelo's use of classical proportion are examples of the progress of thinking during the Renaissance.
